Danielle’s 40th birthday bash was an unforgettable day filled with laughter, dancing, and plenty of drinks as we took on the best spots in Tampa and St. Petersburg. Joined by my wife Lisa, and our friends Yami, Kelly, Risha, Holly, Vanessa, and Sal, we embarked on a day-drinking adventure that was nothing short of spectacular.
Brunch with a View at Sal y Mar
Our day started in Tampa at Sal y Mar, a trendy rooftop bar in Midtown known for its stunning views of the downtown skyline. The atmosphere was perfect for our group photos, with the cityscape providing a dramatic backdrop. I kicked things off with huevos rancheros and turkey bacon, a hearty meal that set me up perfectly for the day ahead. To really get into the celebratory spirit, I indulged in a couple of Old San Juans—a crafty concoction of Angel's Envy Bourbon, rosemary, Xocolati bitters, and lemon zest. Delicious and invigorating, these drinks were just what we needed to start the party.
St. Pete’s Scene: From Drinks to Dance Floors
Post-brunch, we hopped in an Uber and made our way to downtown St. Petersburg, eager to continue the festivities. Our first stop was the Five Bucks Drinkery. Contrary to its name, the drinks were a bit more than five bucks—a nod to the times of inflation, perhaps signaling a need for a name update. Nonetheless, the cocktails were excellent and kept the spirits high.
As the evening unfolded, we ventured over to WTF for more drinks. The place was buzzing, but soon, our group was ready for something different. That’s when we decided to hit the dance floor at Goodnight John Boy.
Disco Fever at Goodnight John Boy
Goodnight John Boy was the highlight of our night. With its '70s disco vibe, complete with a light-up dance floor, it felt like we had traveled back in time. The club exclusively played hits from the '70s, '80s, and '90s, which had us dancing for hours. The energy was electric, and the nostalgia of the tunes made for an exhilarating experience that none of us wanted to end.
Winding Down at Five Bucks Drinkery
Exhausted but elated, we made our way back to the Five Bucks Drinkery to wind down. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with joy, a testament to Danielle's vibrant spirit and our enduring friendship.
From the panoramic views at Sal y Mar to the retro dance floor at Goodnight John Boy, Danielle’s birthday was a celebration of all that we cherish—friendship, adventure, and the simple joy of being together. Here’s to many more years of dancing, laughing, and living life to the fullest. Happy 40th, Danielle!
